Still Newlyweds 50 Years From Now

My husband and I celebrated the beginning of our marriage covenant November 23rd this year. That was exactly 1 month, 1 week, 0 days, 4 hours, 54 mins, and 1 second ago as I write this article. We are introduced as "newlyweds," and it's true... We definitely are the newly married couple with bright eyes and smiling cheeks.

At church this past Sunday, my precious husband put his strong arm around my shoulders. He whispered, "In 50 years, I hope we're still newlyweds." Me too, I thought, as I kissed his cheek.

My husband is so patient and gentle toward me. I am learning how to be a respectful wife, and he is learning how to be a loving husband. My priority as a wife is as Proverbs 31:12 states: "she does him [her husband] good and not evil all the days of her life." God's goodness works through me to bless my husband. My delight is to encourage my husband, care for our home, and nourish our small family. The purpose of my efforts is to build my family and to create a peaceful atmosphere in which our family can flourish.

But. Seriously. I have a lot to learn in the pratical sense. I am learning how to meal plan, grocery shop, and cook. I am learning how to manage my schedule so that I can wash and put away laundry, clean rooms, make meals, and the like. On and on... the things I need to learn... the things I want to learn.

Yes. I am a typical newlywed-- needing to learn how to live by the principles of the word of God in a pratical sense.

The purpose of this blog is to share this journey of learning with anyone who may benefit from our experiences and the resources we gather together. My husband and I will both contribute to this blog, although our contributions may be informal and at times infrequent. Some topics we would like to blog about are those necessary to living:

    --cooking                      --gardening
    --clothing/sewing         --faith
    --education                   --hygiene/health
    --exercise                     --pregnancy (eventually)
    --cleaning                    --marriage

We hope you will enjoy this blog, and if you are willing, to share what you know with us! We are on this journey to live a wholesome and simple lifestyle with the intention to be newlyweds 50 years from now-- but with a little bit more wisdom. ;-)

In our next post, we will discuss our "life situation": (job situation(s), living situation, and goals, etc).

God bless you and keep you,
~Raquel

  1. Hi Raquel and Zac! I've enjoyed reading your blog today and looking at your pictures! Don't feel bad about learning to cook, because when I married your dad, my specialties were macaroni and cheese, and Hamburger Helper. Grandma gave me a church cookbook, and that is where I followed recipes and learned to cook.

I enjoyed watching you give Zac a haircut. That is what Kim does for Dad. There is a lot of hair everywhere because he is "wild and wooly" when he comes back from ND.

You certainly sound like loving newlyweds, and I hope that you will stay that way 50 years from now.

    Love always,

    Momma

  2. People are always teasing us about being newlyweds. The other day at church, one of the elders who is usually not able to come to church, joined us for service. I introduced Zac to him, and he told us to "keep it up" with our newlywed-ness. Zac said, "Well, you know, we plan to be newlyweds for the next 50 years." The elder replied, "I've got you beat. My wife and I were newlyweds for 73 years." (His wife passed away this May.) It was really a bitter-sweet moment.
